HRM TV: Where does Australian HR stand?


In the lead-up to AHRI’s HR in Focus events, speaker Julie Sloan shares her thoughts on re-imagining the future of talent. As a chief executive of Workforce Planning Global and the Australian representative to the ISO International Organization for Standardization, she has unique insight into the push and pull of world-wide recruitment practices.

HR management needs to think more about HR metrics, says Sloan. Although people are still the focus of HR functions, analytics needs to move centre stage. Australian businesses are faring well in attracting talent, but in a competitive global market HR needs to stay on its toes.

Julie Sloan hits the nail on the head with her recommendation, indeed excellent content – concise, understandable for all HR practitioners… We need to move away a bit from soft-skills (as Julie Sloan indicates, not altogether as people are still the ‘brick and mortar’ of any organisation and it is essential to build bridges and engage and influence) but if we as HR practitioners wish to remain credible we need to embrace HR Metrics and Analytics and create a story on how we add value in dollar figures – and what the appropriate strategy is as an solution for any… Read more »
