Human Resource Officer


The role

The HR Officer will work under the direction of the HQ 1 (AS) DIV G1/S01 Personnel Management to action complex APS matters, interpret and provide advice on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessment, investigations and perform procedural, clerical and administrative support work to achieve results.

The HR Officer will support all APS members and their relevant supervisors across multiple locations within Australia and Malaysia. In addition to providing supervision and managerial support of the life cycle management of 1 (AS) DIV Honours and Awards program.

Headquarters 1st (Australian) Division is based at Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggerra QLD and is comprised of several Branches who support Defence’s mission. The headquarters is an integrated workforce comprising of uniformed military members, Australian Public Service (APS) and contracted personnel who operate and undertake their duties within a dynamic, collaborative work environment.

The G1 Branch is responsible for personnel management activities which is achieved through managing the workforce of the organisation, including recruitment, training, evaluation of employees’ performance, remuneration and benefit administration, labour relations, and compliance with labour laws and regulations. It involves the complex tasks and responsibilities associated with the human resources that need to be established inside this organisation.

Our ideal candidate

Headquarters 1st (Australian) Division is seeking candidates for the APS 6 role with the following skills and attributes:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and confidently in a fluid work environment.
  • High level of emotional intelligence.

  • Ability to work with IT systems and Microsoft office suite of programs.
  • Excellent attention to detail. 


The APS 6 will be required to work within, analyse and interpret legislation, policies and procedures. The APS 6 will be also be required to interpret and manage detailed information and statements, including those containing sensitive information. The ability to demonstrate discretion and adherence to privacy principles is essential.
