AHRI’s annual Inclusion and Diversity Conference on 18 May in Sydney brought together thought leaders and HR professionals from across Australia to help answer important questions about cultural diversity in our workplaces.
More than 200 attendees listened to personal accounts and success stories on topics ranging from age diversity to indigenous employment. But some over-arching themes ran through the day. Namely, what leaders can do to foster diverse workplaces, ways we all benefit from cultural diversity and how we can make offices not only inclusive of diverse employees, but more representative of Australia as a whole.

It is good that AHRI is promoting Diversity and Inclusion. I think it is important to look beyond gender and age as the key focus areas. We have a changing demographics from a cultural and ethnicity perspective. However, most of the hiring managers are still stuck in the past and finds it difficult to consider someone who is not like them while recruiting. The challenge is to help them understand the value of aligning the profile of their workforce with the emerging demographic trends.
