It’s showtime! – HRIZON 2012

We are all guilty of thinking about opportunities in life that have passed us by, and often just after they have gone. We see them initially and think to ourselves: “Yes, I would like to do that. I must get around to it. In fact I really want to go, so I will fit in my registration when I can — or when I can get my boss on a good day to chip in with the delegate fee.” Then the days pass, and it’s gone, and you think to yourself: “Ohhh. Shhooot (or something like that). I wish I had followed my instincts and heart a bit earlier.”

This would certainly be the case for HRIZON, the world’s celebration of the HR profession coming to Melbourne on 26-27 of this month. This is a once-in-a quarter-century occurrence in Australia and it will be a monumental celebration, that’s for sure.

The AHRI Annual Convention is the leading HR exposition every year in the Southern Hemisphere. So HRIZON 2012 really is right out of the box and likely to be unique in your professional lifetime. Come and join in the fun. The entertainment value at the gala dinner and the opening and closing ceremonies will blow your mind.

The top speakers include the Hon Michael Kirby, eminent jurist and human rights advocate who will kick off proceedings on Tuesday evening. Then we move to Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computer — now the world’s largest company — Mary Robinson, first female president of Ireland, and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the perennial Dave Ulrich who has been not only the key global HR thought leader for more than two decades, but someone who absolutely loves us all from the land Down Under. Author of Mao’s Last Dancer, Li Cunxin, will regale us all before the gala dinner, and Wayne Cascio and Dan Pink are the inspiring keynote speakers for the final day.

In the concurrent sessions, there’s a roll call of excellent business and HR leaders –Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, Telstra CEO David Thodey, Susan Peters, the head of global learning for GE, and a range of the best local practitioners to challenge and inspire us.

The HRIZON train is about to leave the station and it’s probably not due back again until 2045.
